History

In 1967, several professionals, pharmacists and biochemists, gathered and discussed the necessity of a professional scientific association, which acted spreading the modern technologies of the clinical analyses and that could defend the legitimate interests of the professionals legally qualified to carry out this speciality in the country and that could contribute to the improvement of the knowledge of the clinical analysts.

On 11/28/67, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses ( SBAC ) was founded, as a civil society of non-economic ends and of a scientific-professional character, turned to the development of the clinical analyses and of its professionals.

In 1971, the Society held the I Brazilian Congress of Clinical Analyses, and until today has already held other 34 congresses, being the most recent one in 2007, held in Belo Horizonte (MG), in which more than 8.000 people were present. The next one will be in Fortaleza (CE). Find out about it here.

In 1972, a specific regulation was established for the bestowal of the¨ Title of Specialist in Clinical Analyses “ on the professionals who were approved in Contest of Written Exams and Knowledge Practices and of Titles.

In 1973, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses, representing Brazil, founded with the other Latin American countries the Confederación Latino-Americana de Bioquímica Clínica – ( The Latin American Confederation of Clinical Biochemistry ) COLABIOCLI; where all the professional scientific societies of the speciality, of the Region, are associated.

In 1974, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses affiliated to the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry - IFCC, which is the biggest world scientific society of the speciality. The Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses is the only affiliate and official representative of IFCC in Brazil.

In 1976, under the sponsorship of SBAC, the National Program of Quality Control ( NPQC ) – PNCQ was created, which in 1995 was transformed into National Program of Quality Control Limited, having the purpose of researching, preparing, buying and distributing control material, receiving, processing, evaluating and sending performance result of the Clinical Laboratories which voluntarily participate in the program.

In 1978, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses was mobilized to hold the XII International Congress of Clinical Chemistry, in 1984, in Rio de Janeiro, under the sponsorship of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry - IFCC, whose prestige is undoubtedly the highest in the speciality in all the world. This specific congress was also held together with the V Latin American Congress of Clinical Biochemistry and the XII Brazilian Congress of Clinical Analyses.

In 1996, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses affiliated as a professional member to NCCLS (National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards), at present CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute). Most of the present directors of the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses are ¨Advisor¨ Members of NCCLS.

In 1997, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses continuing its directive of contributing to the improvement of the knowledge, affiliated to the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (BATN) - ABNT, as a supporting entity. It showed the necessity of normalization of the clinical analyses sector and of in vitro diagnosis products and ABNT created ABNT/CB-36, being SBAC in charge of its technical secretariat.

In 1997, worried about the quality of the Clinical Laboratory, the Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses created its Department of Inspection and Quality Accreditation, with the purpose of certifying the quality system of the Clinical Laboratory, which was divulged to the public in nov/98. With the natural evolution of the market, DICQ in the year of 2004 leaves the condition of department and becomes a scientific firm of accreditation of quality systems recognized internationally, and from this time on it is called DICQ National System of Accreditation.

The Brazilian Society of Clinical Analyses solicited in February/99 to the Mercosul Committee of Normalization the creation of a Mercosul Sectorial Committee with the denomination of Clinical Analyses and in vitro Diagnosis which was accepted in a meeting of the Mercosul Sectorial Committee held in may /99, in Montevidéo-Uruguay, arising CSM-20 and designating SBAC as the Technical Secretariat.

At present SBAC is presided by Dr. Ulisses Tuma, elected for the biennium 2005-2006 and re-elected for the biennium 2006-2007.

Graduated in Pharmacy-Biochemistry by the Federal University of Goiás, Ulisses Tuma began his professional trajectory as owner and responsible technician for the Laboratório Moderno (Modern Laboratory), in Goiânia-GO, where he continues until today.
